Who hasn't heard the rumours that you are able to get Zack as a party member? Well, shure it would be a great thing, but it isn't true. Some people say Zack didn't really die in the game, including me, and you can't really know, can you? He was Soldier after all so it might be possible that he survived. And there are some things speaking for it. If you play the game and look for special hints about him you can get a few ones. The most striking probably is the guy in the pipe of Sector 5, the guy with the mako poisoning. He has this spicy black hair and the number two. Remember, it was told that Sephiroth had a number one. A friend of mine told me that if you follow certain rules, as to be always friendly to the girls and act his character as most as possible, you can see him in the northern cave crater before facing Sephiroth. He appears as a guy in a black cloak, like all of the Sephiroth Clones, but you can see his glowing green eyes and the soldier typical violet pants and combat boots. She said he also asks you about Seph, then disappears. You might have to try a few times to meet all the requirements though, and keep your eyes open. There is also a rumor about getting Zack if you win the Masamune in golden saucer's speed square and take this and five parts of mithril to the guy in the house on the middle continent. He then makes you the real Masamune, than you should go to the gongaga reactor and destroy it with the masamune and get Zack in the northern cave crater. I don't think this makes sense. I've tried it, but the guy doesn't make you a Masamune blade.
Then there is a rumor that you can get zack by resurrecting Aerith. But this isn't possible. We tried as far as it goes, but it didn't work, cause one item was missing, and that was the Midgar key. Okay, you can get it, but first on disc two after the weapon awakening. But you have the key BEFORE the reunion starts, on disc one, to meet the guy in the pipe again, who will be gone after the reunion starts. We were told that he would ask you about the friendly girl (Aerith) and then give you a certain stone. Elder Bugen will open the gate to the ancient capital with it and there you can resurrect Aerith, who will wait for you in the Church in Sektor 5. Some say this was planned by Square, and it might be possible since you can see her image in the church if you return there for a short time, and it is a known fact that FFVII, after a lot of delays, was finally released unfinished. But I don't believe it. See, the whole story continues without her, so what if she was to be resurrected? The ending and all would be different and the truth about Zack would probably have never been revieled.
Some say that there is a shadow always following Seph around, and you CAN see it some times. This is true, and if you ask the man on the mountain pass to Corel tree times he tells you about a shadow following the guy in black. And you can see the shadow in the nibelheim mansion when Seph throws the Materia at Cloud, as well as on the ship to Costa del Sol and many other times. This doesn't have to be Zack, but it most likely is. Even if he IS dead - what I don't believe yet - why shouldn't his spirit follow Seph around? There is another rumor that you have to defeat all six weapons in the game. Now you might think: six weapons? There are only five! It is right, if you take a close look, there ARE six weapons leaving the Cliffs and flying off, but you might search as you want, you can only fight four of them, the fifth being destroyed at Junon. The rumor says that the sixth is in a hidden temple under the midgar swamp, but there is no such temple, and there is no white chocobo to go down there.
Antother rumor has it that if you go back to the Shinra Hq. after Diamond weapon attacked it, and you go to the presidents office, you'd find a safe which contains information on all the soldiers, including Zack. Honestly this has to be a fake. First, you can't go to the Shinra Hq. after defeating Hojo at the Cannon, second, after the weapon attacks the presidents office was completely destroyed.
Then there was this rumor that you would meet Zack by finding the Cave in Mideel Montains, but you can't go to that mountain, and there is no cave.
As I said, minna-san, this are just rumors, so don't waste your time trying. We did it over and over again, but it just doesn't work. You can see numerous traces of him if you keep your eyes open, but Zack wasn't meant to be a playable character in the game. Probably that's why Square made him a hidden character in Ehrgeiz.
