Well, nothing much new here, I suppose. Anyone knows that Aerith was Zack's girlfriend. He probably met her in the Shinra Hq. or in the slums one day and immediately fell in love with her. Aerith is a nice and pure hearted girl, and some say that Zack was her only true love. When Zack left for Nibelheim and never returned it broke her heart, and later she said it wasn't true love.
Aerith is the daughter of professor Gast and Infalna, and was born at Icicle Inn. She is the last of the Cetra race after her mother died, and that's why she decided to summon holy to save the planet from Jenova. Shinra was searching for her because they thought she could take them to the promised land, but after all that happened along the story of Final Fantasy VII you get to know that the promised land most likely never truly existed. It was a place the Cetra hoped to return to some day, and probably something like eden.
It is true that Aerith first sees the Zack in Cloud but later she falls in love with the true him. Remember what she said in the gondola at the Golden Saucer. "I want to find you." Shure, Zack was her first love and would be unforgotten, but think about it, their relationship was simply too good to be true.
But again, everyone has a different opinion about it, and so please don't flame me for thinking Aerith rather belongs to Cloud.
Besides ... most of you have thought about pairing up Zack and Cloud, haven't you? XD Aww, I know you have. *laughs madly*
